Call for submissions:
For its inaugural issue, Unbound Brooklyn, the literary journal of St. Francis College Low-Residency MFA in Writing, invites submissions on the theme of all things unbound: that which is set free, without bounds, the limitless, the unfettered, the free. What does it mean to you? Feel free to interpret in radical and innovative ways. Surprise us.
We encourage writing that works both across and within genres, challenges convention and provokes thought, and represents the diversity found here in New York City. We hope to create a space where writers of all orientations can participate in the kind of rich and boundary-crossing conversations that we wish for our community of writers and ourselves. We can only do this with help from you, so please send us your poetry, prose, drama, essays, comics, photographs, hybrid, and other literary creations.
Submissions for Issue 1 are now open and close October 8, 2021. Please submit via Submittable and include a cover letter with complete contact information and a brief bio. All work must be previously unpublished. We accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if your piece is accepted elsewhere.
Prose: Up to about 2,500 words. We’re seeking short fiction, essays, lyric nonfiction, excerpts of longer work, and hybrid work.
Poetry: Up to 5 poems, totaling no more than 10 pages.
Original music/sound pieces: One recorded song/sound piece, attached or linked.
Original artwork: Up to 5 high-resolution images (photography, collage, painting, sculptural work, etc.), attached or linked.
